The first-time tourists
Recommended stops: Central Park -> Empire State Building -> Ellis Island
You can’t complete your first-ever trip to the Big Apple without hitting these world-famous tourist stops. Check these off of your list while you get a feel for everything that this breathtaking city has to offer!
Last spring, we helped book a class trip for a group of 25 from Trenton, NJ. They came in for a day trip to take a walk in Central Park, visit the Observation Deck at the Empire State Building, and finish the afternoon with a stop at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. They rented a 25-passenger minibus outfitted with reclining seats and WiFi to make the hour-and-a-half commute into the city comfortable.
They left their high school at 8:00 a.m. and planned for a two-hour commute into the city. Accounting for travel time to each stop plus meal breaks along the way, their reservation specialist helped them determine that they needed to book their minibus for a total of 12 hours.
Total cost: $1680
Cost per person: $67.20
The returning veterans
Recommended Stops: Westlight (at The William Vale) -> New World Stages -> Queens Museum
For your second visit, stray away from the typical Manhattan tourist traps and delve deeper into New York’s unique destinations. A group of friends from Philadelphia recently booked a trip with us that included these three stops, each offering a way to experience the city without dealing with insane crowds.
They stayed at The William Vale, allowing them to enjoy beautiful sweeping views of the city at the hotel’s rooftop bar without bumping shoulders with strangers. Their first day included an off-broadway show at New World Stages; and their second day included a trip out to the Queens Museum.
For two days with an 18-passenger minibus, they were quoted at $2,200, bringing the total cost-per-person to $122.23.
The NYC natives
Recommended Stops: The High Line -> The Brooklyn Museum -> Sleep No More
As “lesser-known” destinations in the city, these stops often entice natives and very experienced travelers who’ve already visited NYC’s other must-see stops. The High Line is perfect for taking a stroll past some greenery within the city-- just try to go during a weekday instead of on the weekend to avoid crowds! The Brooklyn Museum offers over one million permanent pieces, including Egyptian antiques and art from all over the world, though it is often overshadowed by the MOMA or the Met. Finally, Sleep No More offers a unique theatre-watching experience that you won’t find on Broadway.
Planning a trip to any of these stops from outside the city? A 20-passenger minibus is a great way to travel together with friends, family, or coworkers, without worrying about planning which subway routes you’ll need to take or splitting up into taxis. A personal bus makes traveling simple by operating on your time and going everywhere you go.
A one-day rental for a 20-passenger minibus starts at $1100, bringing the cost to $55 per person per day for 20 people. Your reservation specialist will go over specific price points and answer any questions you may have when you call to book.
Calculating Your Price
Remember to account for extra costs that may come up during your trip, such as tolls or hotel accommodations for your driver (if your trip lasts multiple days). It’s also recommended that you tip your driver 10-20% of the total cost of your rental to show your appreciation!
